What 160 cases in a day mean!

Published June 30, 2006

JHANG, June 29: Not less than 160 criminal cases were registered in a single day on Wednesday in 19 police stations in the district. While the police officials boast of instituting a record number of cases in a day, a source revealed that most of the cases were false and registered against innocent people to achieve the target set for the district by the department higher-ups.

The district crime diary, however, explains that of the 160 cases, 125 have been lodged on the charges of narcotics use and illegal weapons’ possession.

The source further claimed that the narcotics and weapons recovered in many past incidents had been shown as those possessed by the people against whom the recent cases were registered. The recovered stuff was already lying at various police stations, he said.
