Jordan has condemned an attack on UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, expressing solidarity with France after a soldier was killed, Al Jazeera reports.

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the incident targeted the French contingent of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil), leaving one soldier dead and several wounded, according to the state news agency Petra.

Ministry spokesperson Fuad Al-Majali says Amman stands with Paris following the attack.

He expresses “the Kingdom’s sympathy and full solidarity with the government and people of the friendly French Republic in this painful tragedy”, offering “sincere condolences and sympathy to the soldier’s family”, and wishing “a speedy recovery to the injured”.
