Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his advisers have been left “shocked” by US President Donald Trump’s post on Truth Social, which says Israel has been “prohibited” by Washington from striking Lebanon, Axios reports.
Citing two sources, one of whom is from the US, Axios adds that Israel asked the White House for clarifications about Trump’s post.
According to the report, Trump’s post contradicts the text of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon that the US State Department published on Thursday.
“The implication of Trump’s post — that he was issuing an order that Israel had no choice but to obey — would have been unthinkable under other US administrations, Axios reports. “Netanyahu was personally stunned and alarmed when he learned of the post.”
