SAHIWAL: A local landlord’s son was arrested by the police on Friday on the outskirts of Chak 75/12-L for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a public official for killing stray dogs.

According to details, on the orders of the Chichawatni assistant commissioner, municipal committee official Ghulam Yaseen went to the village to kill stray dogs and used poison for the purpose. However, a pet dog of a local also died and was later confirmed that it belonged to landlord Nadir Ali’s son Ikram.

The enraged youth allegedly kidnapped the official, took him to his farmhouse and locked him up in a room. The Shahkot police arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident and recovered Ghulam Yaseen and arrested Ikram.

The Shahkot police, on Ghulam Yaseen’s complaint, registered a case against the accused and started investigation.

ENCOUNTER: An alleged dacoit was arrested by the Crime Control Department (CCD) in injured condition after an encounter in village 92/R.

According to the police, a CCD team headed by Sub-Inspector Shahid Mahmood was on its way to arrest proclaimed offenders.

Police claimed when they reached the Sahiwal Bypass turn near Malik Benyamin Garden, two motorcyclists opened fire on the police vehicle. Police took cover and returned fire.

Police claimed that after the exchange of fire, suspect Zohaib Usman, a resident of 135/9- L, was found lying in a severely injured condition. He was taken into custody, while his accomplice Jafar Hussain Machhi, a resident of Chichawatni, managed to escape.

Police claimed to have recovered a motorcycle, a 30-bore pistol, and SMG bullet casings near the injured suspect. The injured suspect was shifted to the teaching hospital, while a team was dispatched to arrest his fleeing accomplice.

Sahiwal CCD police station registered a case on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Shahid Mahmood and started an investigation.
