Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei says that Tehran will pursue reciprocal action if the US naval blockade persists, Al Jazeera reports, citing Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.
“Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz will be allowed along a pre-determined route by Iran,” Tasnim quotes Baghaei as saying. “If the maritime blockade of Iran’s ports continues, Iran will take reciprocal measures.”
He adds that Iran is the “guardian of the Strait of Hormuz” and will show leniency where necessary.
