US Senators have voted 52 to 47 against a Democratic-led resolution aiming to stop the war in Iran until hostilities are authorised by Congress, Al Jazeera reports.

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky is the only Republican to vote in favour, underscoring the party’s continuing support ‌for Trump’s war policy. Republican Senator Jim Justice of West Virginia has not voted.

It is the fourth time that Democrats have forced votes on similar measures since the war began, but all of them have failed in the face of opposition from Republicans

The only Democratic no came from Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman.

Democratic party leaders have vowed to keep bringing up the war powers resolution until ‌the ‌conflict ends, or Congress authorises continued fighting.
