TOBA TEK SINGH: The only public toilet facility in Jhang city located adjacent to Majeed Amjad Park has been non-functional for about a year, Dawn has learnt.

Citizens told reporters that the public toilet was built in 2021 by the then commissioner and was handed over by the buildings department to the district council, as the Majeed Amjad Park is situated on the district council land.

They said the toilet block had two latrines for males and one each for females and differently-abled.

They claimed the facility had been closed down due to lack of water, electricity, sanitation staff, and operational funds. They said that after citizens took on the issue, it was made functional in 2023. However, they claimed that it again became non-functional due to the unavailability of water, broken taps, poor sanitation and lack of monitoring for the last one year.

The citizens said that now Wasa and Suthra Punjab were also functioning in Jhang as well as the municipal corporation that had a large number of sanitation staff, so this facility should immediately be restored.

When contacted, a district administration spokesperson claimed that DC Ali Akbar Bhinder had already sought a report on the request of citizens from the district council and MC officials regarding the current status of the facility. Moreover, the spokesperson said that he had directed that necessary steps be taken to restore the facility.
