KARACHI, June 28: The National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) will conduct separate trials in the city and in China next month for the selection of national squad for the coming SAF Games.

The shooters who could not get selected for the China trip will appear in the three-day trials being held at the PN shooting range from July 8 while those who are currently training abroad will go through a similar process under the supervision of coaches there, Khalid Javed, secretary NRAP, said on Wednesday.

Pakistan will field a 22-member team, including seven women, in different categories of pistol and rifle in the SAF Games.

A total of 26 gold medals are up for grabs in individual and team events in five pistol events for men and two for women and three rifle events apiece for men and women.

The official said NRAP has reduced the team’s strength to 15 (men) and seven (women) following request from the PSB to curtail the number due to financial constraints. Earlier, the NRAP has planned to send 16 (men) and 9 (women).

Meanwhile, the shooters are progressing well under the supervision of Chinese coaches.

The two foreign coaches would return with the team and stay in the country until the Asian Games to be held in December.
