LAHORE, June 26: Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards strictly abiding by rules of racing disqualified two fillies belonging to stewards, who won first and second position in a race during the day and night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

After the third race the runners returned to unsaddling enclosure, A. Imran, the rider of third placed filly, Daisy Against All lodged objections against the winner, Julia Robert and second placed Tan Man Dhan for pressing and crossing.

After hearing the concerned jockeys and examining the race video, the stewards upheld the objections and awarded the race to Daisy Against All.

Both disqualified fillies, Julia Robert and Tan Man Dhan are owned by Munir Ahmad Dar, a steward of Jockey Club Of Pakistan (JCP) and Arbab Nur Muhammad Khan, a senior steward of LRC, respectively.

This is the first ever incident in LRC history in which two horses belonging to stewards have been disqualified from one race after winning two top positions.

When contacted by Dawn, LRC steward Syed Parvaiz Hussain Shah said that although the verdict seemed harsh but it had been taken in the interest of fair racing and the punishment was given as provided in the LRC rules of racing.

Race-goers were also happy that the horses belonging to stewards have also been penalized.

The last race day of the season 2005-6 turned out disastrous for punters when only two favourite romped home in a card of six races.
