Austrian FM Beate Meinl-Reisinger has said “diplomatic solutions and de-escalation are urgently needed” after she spoke with Iran’s FM Abbas Araghchi.

“I emphasised the need to end the strikes on neighbouring countries and restore freedom of navigation in the Strait Hormuz, especially regarding the humanitarian aspect of global food security with a focus on fertilisers and other essential goods,” the Austrian minister said on X.

“Regarding the Iranian nuclear programme, Austria supports any diplomatic way forward that leads to a new agreement and full cooperation with the IAEA,” she added.

“In times like this it is important to maintain dialogue,” Meinl-Reisinger emphasised.
