DADU, June 26: Police on Monday baton-charged a procession of school management committee teachers who were demanding their 15-month salaries. The police arrested some protesters and registered cases under section 147, 148 of the PPC against 50 SMC teachers.

The teachers also staged a demonstration outside the district nazim office for five hours, locked its main gate and held employees hostage in the office.

When they blocked road, police led by TPO Dadu Gul Mohammad Chachar arrived and asked them to open the road for traffic, but protesters refused that led to police action.

Speaking to protesters, SMC Teachers Association president Mohammad Ali Panhwar said 300 teachers were performing their duties in primary schools of district, but officials were not paying them salaries.

He said it was because of SMC teachers that 70 closed schools had been opened.

If salaries were not paid, they would continue their protest.

Arrested teachers include Mohammad Ali Panhwar, Mushtaq Ahmed, Nazeer Ahmed Khushik, Nasrullah, Ali Nawaz, Nazeer Jatoi, Roshan Ali, Nisar Ghulam Mustafa Panhwar, Mumtaz Birhamani and Yaseen Panhwar.
