HYDERABAD, June 26: Hundreds of nationalist parties’ activists took part in a rally on Monday, organised by the Hyderabad Bachao Committee to protest against majority party’s attitude towards the opposition in the district council and the district government’s tampering with historical buildings.

Carrying party flags, banners and placards and wearing black armbands, the protesters raised slogans “down with the terrorists and stop tampering with national heritage”.

With Awami Tehreek chief Rasool Bux Palijo, Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi and other local leaders in the lead, they marched from the district council building to Hyderabad Press Club where they blocked the road for about two hours.

Mr Palijo urged Sindhis to get united on one platform to challenge the hooligans. It was in fact a fight between the poor and a handful of terrorists and Sindhis were quite capable of defending their rights, he said.

Dr Qadir Magsi said that the district government was neither democratic nor an elected government, it had been thrust upon people.
