KARACHI: A fire broke out in a high-rise building on Sharea Faisal on Wednesday.

Rescue-1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan said the blaze erupted in a gym on the first floor of the ITC building near the Baloch Colony flyover, apparently due to a short circuit.

He said four fire tenders and a snorkel were dispatched to the scene and brought the fire under control after strenuous efforts.

Around 70 people were rescued during the operation and were temporarily shifted to the top floor for safety.

Another blaze

In a separate incident, a fire broke out at a branch of Allied Bank Limited near Zainab Market in the Saddar area.

The blaze started on the mezzanine floor, where documents were stored.

Two fire tenders extinguished the fire. A short circuit was suspected to be the cause.

No injuries were reported in either incident.
