LAHORE, June 25: Firing at a wedding procession by an alleged pickpocket killed one of the guests and injured four others at Atari Sroba in Nishtar Colony on Sunday.

Police said the wedding procession of Usman of Dharampura went to Atari Sroba, where a teenage pickpocket deprived one of the guests of his money, and was caught.

The guests gave a good thrashing to the pickpocket, and let him go.

A few minutes later, another pickpocket, Shahbaz alias Jeera, said to be ringleader of the gang, arrived at the scene and opened fire, causing serious injuries to five of the guests. The accused managed his escape.

The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital, where one of them, Muhammad Munawar, 32, died after receiving first aid.

The body has been sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. A case has been registered with no arrest.
