Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has stated that “mediator” is a better descriptor for Pakistan’s role in the peace process.

“The word ‘mediation’ is better than ‘facilitation’ since we are providing a conduit for mediation,” Asif says.

“All three nations (Pakistan, Egypt and Turkiye) will also play their own roles; they will not just be conduits,” he adds.

“They have their own position within the Ummah. I believe that right now, they are steering this process. Within that, the input of these countries will be included.”

Asif added that this is an issue that involved the “whole Muslim Ummah” and that they have a common interest in ensuring peace.

“This is Pakistan’s goal.”
