BAHAWALPUR: Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ghazi Salahuddin has suspended three station house officers (SHOs) from service on the charges of abuse of power, corruption, mistreatment of public, misconduct and links with criminals.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the RPO suspended Musafirkhana SHO Inspector Sajjad Ahmed Sindhu, Haroonabad city SHO Sub Inspector (SI) Ismail Mohal and Ahmedpur Lamma SHO SI Javed Gopang (Rahim Yar Khan district).
The suspended SHOs have been closed to their respective police lines.
The RPO reiterated that the dispensation of justice to the public and the elimination of corruption were the core duties of police.
Meanwhile, Baghdad-ul-Jadid police, Bahawalpur, have booked three Qaumi Razakas (police volunteers) for allegedly extorting thousands of rupees from complainants, posing as police officials.
As per police sources, the action against the three suspects – Waseam, Majeed and Hameed –was taken under sections 384, 341, 170 and 171 of the PPC on the orders of Bahawalpur DPO Rana Abdul Wahab.
The suspects are yet to be arrested.
In a related move, the DPO has banned the entry of police volunteers in the police stations across the district and ordered a strict action against such impersonators.
SUSPECT HELD: Tibba Sultanpur police in Vehari district claimed to have arrested a “wanted criminal” in injured condition after an alleged encounter at Pull Jandanwala.
According to police PRO, a police party deployed at Pull Jandanwala signaled three suspects riding a motorcycle to stop for checking.
Instead of stopping, the suspects opened fire, that was returned by the police team.
After the firing stopped, the police found one of the suspects lying injured, while the others fled the scene.
The police claimed that the arrested suspect, identified as Shahyar alias Sheri Pathan, a resident of Ward No 1, Tibba Sultanpur, was injured in the firing by his fleeing accomplices.
A 44-bore rifle and a snatched mobile phone were recovered from the suspect, besides the motorcycle used by them.
The injured man was shifted to hospital for treatment.
The police claim that Shahyar was found involved in over a dozen cases of dacoity, thefts and robbery registered in different police stations in the region.
Raids are being conducted to arrest the fleeing suspects, the police say.
