DADU, June 24: Farmers of the Rice canal held demonstrations in Khairpur Nathan Shah and Mehar towns on Saturday in protest against water rotation programme enforced by officials of the Sindh irrigation department.

Abadgar Association leaders Barkat Lund, Shams Jarwar and Amin Jamali led the protesters. They accused officials of the irrigation department of selling water to influential landlords at the head.

They said that they had been deprived of their share of water.

They said that tail-end water channels of the Rice canal like Kalro Shakh, Khuda wah and Mir Mohammad waterways had dried up after enforcement of the rotation programme.
