KARACHI: City Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi co-chaired a key meeting regarding the rehabilitation and development of the city’s industrial zones at the Commissioner Office here on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by representatives of various industrial trade associations, the Secretary Labour, and other relevant officials.

During the meeting, trade and industrial associations gave detailed briefings on the proposed development schemes in their respective areas.

Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) Super Highway Association presented proposals worth Rs600 million for three different projects, while schemes worth Rs2 billion were proposed for KITE.

Similarly, development projects worth Rs859m were presented by the FB Area Association, Rs2n for Landhi Association, and Rs1b for North Karachi Association. Schemes worth Rs621m for Bin Qasim Industrial Area were also reviewed.

Addressing the meeting, the mayor stated that the rehabilitation and development of Karachi’s industrial zones is a top priority of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.

He expressed his commitment to making development work more efficient and expediting it through fast-track implementation under public-private partnerships.

He further said that the provision of funds to trade and industrial associations would begin soon so that projects can be completed on time.

The mayor requested that associations also provide completion timelines along with their proposed schemes to ensure that traders and citizens receive relief at the earliest.

He reiterated his resolve to work in collaboration with all stakeholders to transform Karachi into a modern and developed industrial city.
