Railways earns Rs1bn in a week from passenger trains

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways claims to have earned over Rs1 billion revenue from passenger trains in one week, including Rs480 million revenue earned during the three days of Eidul Fitr.
According to PR’s Chief Executive Officer Amir Ali Baloch, the department’s passenger train sector earned Rs110 million revenue on the first day of Eid, followed by Rs170 million on the second day and over Rs200 million on the third day.
“During the past week, including the Eid days, the PR generated a total revenue of more than Rs1 billion from passenger trains,” he added.
He said that efforts were also underway to enhance the freight train revenue in a bid to achieve revenue targets in all sectors.
On the other hand, Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi termed the performance a result of positive policies and effective administrative measures, and congratulated the management.
He directed the officers concerned to accelerate efforts to further improve passenger facilities.
The minister stated that provision of quality facilities to passengers and strengthening of railway tracks were the top priorities and work was underway in this regard.
He further added that the Karachi to Rohri railway track would be fully upgraded within the next three years, which would not only improve the standard of travel but also significantly enhance train speeds.
