PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday issued a warning about possible flash floods and landslides in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to expected heavy rains and snowfall in upper regions.

The PDMA has forecast rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in most districts of the province from March 25 to 30.

A new spell of westerly winds is expected to enter the region on the night of March 24 and may persist until March 31. Upper districts, including Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad, are likely to receive rain along with snowfall in mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, plain areas such as Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram and Waziristan may also experience rainfall and gusty winds.

There is also a possibility of hailstorms in some areas between March 28 and 30. PDMA has warned that heavy rainfall could cause local streams and rivers to overflow, leading to flash floods, while mountainous areas face a risk of landslides.

Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during this period. Additionally, strong winds and lightning may damage weak structures, poles and solar panels.

Authorities, including district administrations and rescue services such as Rescue 1122, have been directed to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures.

The public is urged to take safety precautions and report any emergency by calling the PDMA helpline 1700.
