Tehran has threatened that if its power infrastructure is destroyed in further US-Israeli attacks, Iran will completely close off the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement from the Khatam al-Anbiya — Iran’s central command authority — published by the Fars news agency.
“We have repeatedly stated that the Strait of Hormuz is only closed to enemies and harmful traffic; it has not yet been completely closed and is under our intelligent control,” the statement, delivered by a spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya, says.
“Harmless transit, under specific regulations, continues in a way that ensures our security and interests.”
The statement warns that if threats against Iran’s power plants are carried out, the following “punitive actions will immediately be taken”:
- The Strait of Hormuz will be completely closed and will not be reopened until our destroyed power plants are rebuilt.
- All power plants, energy infrastructure, and information and communications technology infrastructure in Israel will be widely targeted.
- Companies in the region with American shareholders will be completely destroyed.
- Power plants in regional countries hosting US bases will be considered legitimate targets.
“We did not start the war, and we will not start it now. However, if the enemy causes damage to our power plants, we will do whatever is necessary to defend our country and the interests of our nation,” the statement adds.
“The uninterrupted process of destroying the aforementioned targets will begin, and nothing will be able to stop the continuation of our operations to destroy the energy, oil, and industrial infrastructure of the United States and its allies in the region.”
