SAHIWAL, June 23: The Yousafwala police on Friday registered a kidnap case against the Farid Town police station SHO and his four accomplice constables on the orders of the Lahore High Court’s Multan bench.

The accused police officials had allegedly kidnapped a youth to settle grudge.

According to information, a police party shot at and injured Shakeel Ahmad, son of labourer Muhammad Ramzan, from Chak 111/9-L on Aug 20, 2004. They arrested him and got him admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital for his treatment.

In response to a writ petition his family had filed with court, a bailiff recovered him from the police custody. The boy was again admitted to the hospital from where he was taken away by the police to an unknown place.

Ghafooran, the detenu’s mother, prayed to the district and sessions judge to order registration of a case against the police but the court disposed of the petition without passing any favourable order. The wailing mother then filed a writ petition for the recovery of her son with the LHC’s Multan bench which directed the police to produce the youth in court.

As the police failed to pay heed to the direction, Justice Maulvi Anwarul Haq ordered registration of a case against the SHO and four constables who had taken away Shakeel.

A case has been registered against Farid Town police station SHO Rao Shafqat Ali and his four constables under section 364 of PPC after nearly two years of the incident.
