KARACHI, June 22: Provincial legislator Eshwar Lal on Thursday faced the ire of Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah who suspended the lawmaker belonging to the PML for sending fellow MPA Shazia Marri a note bearing some ‘indecent remarks’.

Mr Shah said he had not seen the note but he had been informed that it said: ‘Aap kesi hain?’ (How are you?).

The PPP legislators who had thrashed Mr Lal on Wednesday were not spared either. While Mr Lal was suspended for the entire budget session, PPP MPAs Syed Murad Ali Shah, Haji Munawwar Ali Abbasi, Saleem Hingoro and Nawaz Ali Chandio were suspended for two days.

The speaker’s rulings, which came when the house reassembled on Thursday to resume debate on the provincial budget, were welcomed by treasury members.

But opposition members expressed their displeasure by raising slogans of ‘shame, shame’.

As opposition members screamed in protest, their leader Nisar Khuhro tried to criticise the ruling. The speaker quickly adjourned the session for an hour.

However, the PPP legislators who had been suspended returned when the session restarted. The speaker said: “I see some strangers in the house. I will not run it unless it is brought to order.”

But the erring MPAs refused to leave the assembly hall. The speaker thereupon adjourned the session till Friday.
