Army swimmers make clean sweep

LAHORE, June 22: Army made a clean sweep, winning all six gold medals, when the 47th National swimming championship started at the Model Town Club pool on Thursday.

Army swimmers grabbed 66 points to lead the points table. They also won four silver medals and 4x200m freestyle relay.

Wapda scored 35 points with two silver and as many bronze medals to occupy the second place.

Navy scored 13, Punjab (seven), NWFP (six) and Sindh (five).

Two matches were also decided in the 7th water-polo championship.

Navy beat Wapda 15-3 while Punjab got walk over against the Higher Education Commission.

200m freestyle: 1. Adil Baig; 2. Mahboob Ali; 3. Shahbaz.

200m breaststroke: 1. Nasir Mahboob; 2. Sanaullah; 3. Abdul Aziz.

400m individual medley: 1. Nisar Ahmad; 2. Sikandar Khan; 3. M. Mansoor.

200m back-stroke: 1. Imdad Ali; 2. Faiz Mohammad; 3. M. Zahid.

200m butterfly: 1. Nisar Ali; 2. M. Altaf; 3. Adnan Hashim.

4 x200m freestyle relay: 1. Army; 2. Wapda; 3. Navy.
