GUJRANWALA, June 21: The execution of two condemned prisoners was postponed for a fortnight on the orders of President Gen Pervez Musharraf to allow time for mediation between the convict and aggrieved parties.
Reports said the jail authorities had completed all necessary arrangements for the execution of Abdul Rasheed and Muhammad Rafiq on Wednesday. However, the president accepted their request for mediation between the two parties failing which the two convicts would be hanged after a fortnight.
The two convicts had killed their cousins — Ijaz and Ashiq — in People’s Colony over old score in 1993.
MODEL MARKETS: As many as 10 model fruit and vegetable and four grain markets will be set up in major cities in the Punjab for which the government has allocated Rs600 million.
This was stated by Punjab Agricultural Marketing Minister Muhammad Qasim Noon at a briefing here on Wednesday.
He said these markets would be established in Gujranwala, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Burewala, Jaranwala, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal and Sialkot in 2006-07.
AFFILIATION: The Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has fixed Sept 30 and Oct 31 as deadlines for affiliation of the government and private educational institutions, respectively.
