ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army has destroyed “important posts and centres” during a timely operation in Arandu and Kurram sectors, state-run PTV News quoted security sources as saying on Tuesday.

The sources said the “cowardly Afghan Taliban” were forced to flee the posts due to “effective attacks and retaliatory actions” by Pakistan’s armed forces.

The sources further said the armed forces of the country were targeting Afghan Taliban and Fitna al Khawarij’s “hideouts and only military installations”.

Meanwhile, heavy artillery fire was exchanged between forces on both sides in the Mohmand district.

Shelling reported in Mohmand; officials dismiss reports of Pakistani team holding talks in Kabul

Officials said that four mortar shells were fired from the Afghan side on Tuesday evening. One shell landed inside a security force camp in Faqirabad in the Khwezai tehsil, while the remaining three shells struck near a civilian settlement in Mamad Kor. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Local residents said that heavy weapons were being used by both sides, causing concern among people living in the border areas.

In a related development, officials dismissed reports of Pakistan sending a delegation to Kabul for talks with Afghan Taliban

Afghanistan-based Tolo News and other outlets had reported that a three-member delegation, sent by the Pakistan government, was holding talks with the Afghan Taliban in Kabul amid border tensions.

But official sources in Pakistan said there was no truth to these reports and Islamabad had not sent any such delegation to Kabul for talks.

The sources said Pakistan’s position was very clear that the Afghan Taliban would have to stop facilitating the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and take decisive action against them.
