LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), June 21: The political administration of the Khyber Agency has opened the Bara bazaar road after consultations with a jirga comprising elders and leaders of the trading community.

It was decided at a meeting between the administration and tribal jirga that shops would remain closed while the main road passing through the bazaar would be opened for 12 hours a day. The administration also warned the jirga that nobody would be allowed to carry arms in the bazaar nor car parking would be allowed.

The decision to partially ease the restrictions was taken after protracted parleys between the jirga members and officials of the administration since Friday last.

The administration had also released Malik Haji Nawab to help assist the jirga in persuading Mangal Bagh, the self proclaimed amir of Lashkar-i-Islam, and his supporters to lay down arms and close down his illegal FM radio station.

Malik Nawab was arrested from Peshawar on June 11 for his alleged support to the Lashkar-i-Islam.
