KARACHI, June 21: The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF), condemning police action on Monday against the fishermen who were protesting against contract system in fishing sector, has announced that it would stage protest rallies all over the province on Thursday.

According to PFF representatives, more than 250 people, including women and children, were injured when they were baton-charged on Monday at Gaghar Phatak while entering the city to participate in a peaceful rally in support of their demands.

The PFF leaders held the provincial and city governments for the ‘ugly incident’, saying that more than 50 protesters had been picked up and were being tortured by police.

Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, PFF chairman Mohammad Ali Shah termed it ‘a shameful act’.
