PESHAWAR: The central chairman of the Alami Muttahida Ulema-o-Mashaikh Council, Allama Muhammad Shoaib, has said that India, Israel and Afghanistan were involved in terrorist activities taking place in Pakistan, claiming that both security personnel and civilians were being targeted.
Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, he said the current situation posed serious threats to Pakistan and the Middle East. He maintained that personnel of the Pakistan Army were being martyred in terrorist attacks and that ordinary citizens were also coming under attack.
Mr Shoaib said his organisation stood shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces for the defence and integrity of the country. He further claimed that the prevailing situation in Iran had deteriorated due to what he described as “terrorism by the United States and Israel,” and urged Muslim countries to adopt a united strategy in response to regional challenges.
He said Iran was being targeted for its support of the Palestinian people and for backing the cause of Al-Quds. The council, he added, strongly condemned and expressed sorrow over the reported martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and members of his family, stating that such incidents would further aggravate tensions in the region.
Mr Shoaib emphasised that terrorism was an increasing threat and called for unity and a clear strategy to address the issue. He said the Muslim world needed to demonstrate practical unity to prevent further instability.
At the conclusion of the press conference, he reiterated the resolve to maintain peace in Pakistan and to continue supporting the armed forces under all circumstances.
Others who spoke on the occasion included the council’s central secretary general Mufti Junaid Ali Shah Bukhari, Maqsood Ahmed Salfi, Hafiz Hashmat Ali and Dr Aminur Rehman.
