FAISALABAD, June 19: Following a strong protest by people of about 100 villages, the City District Government Faisalabad (CDGF) has withdrawn the plan of imposing toll on seven major roads.
District Nazim Rana Zahid Tauseef will make a formal announcement to this effect on Wednesday (tomorrow) at a public meeting here.
A meeting held here on Monday with the district nazim in the chair, decided that no toll would be collected from villagers of seven roads and the local government would bear all expenses on its own in the larger interest of the people.
The meeting was told that the government was collecting over Rs20 million from the auction of these seven roads, but the decision to withdraw the toll had been taken to provide financial relief to growers of about 100 villages.
Tax has been withdrawn from Narawala Road, Millat Road, Jaranwala Road, Samundri Road, Tandlianwala Road, Pansera Dijkot Road, Samundri-Kanjwani and Garh Road.
Growers of these areas have been protesting against the imposition of toll on these roads of the district for over a year. They had finally staged a demonstration outside the district council complex a couple of days back during auction of the toll contract.
