PESHAWAR, June 19: City district nazim Haji Ghulam Ali has approved a scheme for providing furniture, uniform, laboratory equipment, school-bags and water coolers to high schools in the district at a cost of Rs50.5 million.

The approval was given at a meeting held here with the district naib nazim, DCO, EDO (Education) and other officials concerned, said a press release issued on Monday.

The district nazim said that improving condition of schools and provision of facilities to students was the responsibility of the government.

However, he added, the amount to be spent on furniture, uniforms, school-bags were lying unutilized from the last three years.

The meeting was told that furniture and other equipment would be supplied to different schools in July.

The nazim also directed the purchase committee to strictly follow rules for quality and standards for purchase of items
