HYDERABAD: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated a state-of-the-art secretariat complex of the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) off Thandi Sarak here on Monday.

Speaking at the ceremony, he described the complex as a landmark step towards merit-based recruitment, digital transformation and better governance.

He was accompanied by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Planning & Development Minister Jam Khan Shoro and Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Shoro.

SPSC Chairman Mohammad Waseem and commission’s members welcomed him upon his arrival.

CM Shah stated that the SPSC had been instrumental in maintaining merit, and observed that a transparent and digital examination system remained its top priority.

He described the Computer-Based Testing (CBT) as a significant step toward greater transparency. “Competent and capable youth are the bright future of Sindh,” he remarked, adding that the PPP government would continue to lead initiatives for public welfare.

Mr Waseem briefed him about the complex built at a cost of Rs2.493bn on one acre of land, including a digital library, CBT lab, auditorium, cafeteria, gymnasium and a mosque. New facility would lessen reliance on external venues and further strengthen SPSC’s operational independence.

The CM inspected facilities with particular interest in the world-class digital library capable of accommodating over 300 candidates.

The CM was told that over 2,000 candidates had appeared for exams using the new CBT lab. Introduction of 1-Link online challan system, e-library and digital candidate facilitation had greatly enhanced accessibility and efficiency.

Implementation of Recruitment Management Regulations 2023 has institutionalised transparency, merit protection, and governance reforms. Disciplinary action was taken against 16 officers of BS-18 and BS-20, including dismissals, compulsory retirements, removals from service, and censures by withholding promotions to improve institutional credibility and public trust.

The CM said that merit, transparency and digital transformation bolstered the governance. “The SPSC complex is not just a building, but a centre of progress and prosperity,” he stated.
