17 thieves arrested

LAHORE, June 16: The city investigation police claimed on Friday to have arrested 17 members of four alleged gangs of car and motorcycle lifters in the last some weeks. Speaking at a press conference, DIG Muhammad Iqbal claimed that a total 55 cars, 45 motorcycles and 12 rickshaws worth around Rs 70 million had been seized from the gang members.

The seized vehicles belonged to Lahore, Sargodha, Karachi, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Kamalya. Besides, a rifle, two pistols and dozens of bullets were seized from the arrested men.

The accused were identified as Abid, Razzaq, Gulzar, Khalid, Rizwan, Zubair, Sajjad, Arshad, Anwar, Iftikhar, Safdar, Nasrullah, Shabbir, Ashraf, Ishfaq, Zulfikar and Sabir.

The DIG said the gangs had been busted by anti-carlifting staff of the CIA police.

Further investigation is under way.
