LANDI KOTAL :Building demolished

Published June 17, 2006

LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), June 16: The political administration of the Khyber Agency demolished another shopping plaza in the Bara bazaar on Thursday. The demolition is part of action taken against the Sipah tribe under the ‘collective territorial responsibility’ clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation for the alleged support to Lashkar-i-Islam.

The administration used earth moving machines to demolish the single-storey Sheikhan market, comprising some 40 shops, instead of using explosive material. The administration, however, with held its operation against another building which was issued notices on Tuesday.

Shopkeepers held a protest demonstration on Thursday against the closure of Bara bazaar and demanded an immediate end to the demolition of their shops.
