KARACHI: The city authorities on Saturday sealed over 500 shops for violating firesafety regulations in Saddar.

As many as 400 outlets, including warehouses and workshops, were sealed at Paradise Centre and another 100 shops at Japan Market.

Officials said the crackdown, launched on the instruction of Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, aimed to enforce firesafety standards and prevent potential disasters in the densely populated commercial area.

They said that operation to ensure fire-safety regulations would be expanded to other parts of the city shortly.
