KARACHI, June 16: The district and session judge, East, Rashida Asad, sentenced on Thursday five police officials to a five-year term for killing the great grandson of Quaid-i-Azam in the custody.The judge also ordered the convicts -– the then SHO of Jamshed Quarters Inspector Chuadhry Nazeer, Sub-inspector Mohammed Fazil and head constables Shabbir, Tariq and Chaudhry Abdul Majeed — to pay Diyat to the family of Sikandar Jinnah.

The victim was killed in custody due to torture in January 1998. He was picked up with his cousin, Sarwar, by the police who implicated them in a house robbery.

The FIR, against police officials under Section 319 of the PPC for Qatl-i-Khata, was registered on the orders of the court.

The police official had tortured Sikandar to death in custody and had demanded from his family Rs50,000 for his release.
