Traders observe strike

SUKKUR, June 15: Traders belonging to Shaheed Ganj and Shahi Bazaar staged a demonstration and observed a two-hour strike on Thursday, in protest against looting of a mobile phone dealer in Shaheed Ganj late on Wednesday night.

The mobile phone dealer, Vijay Kumar, was in his shop when armed men entered the place and looted mobile phones and cash at gunpoint.

On this, the traders belonging to Shaheed Ganj, Shahi Bazaar and other areas observed a two hour shutter down strike and staged a protest demonstration and chanted slogans against the police.

In the meantime, the SHOs of “B” and “C section police stations reached on the spot and after negotiation with the traders that their looted items would be recovered, the traders ended their protest.

BAR ELECTION: Mr Imdad Ali Awan was elected unopposed president of the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Sukkur, on Thursday, according to the official result announced by the returning officer.

Those elected unopposed included, Imdad Ali Awan, president, Shafqatullah Shaikh, vice president, Ghulam Shabbir Shar, honorary secretary, Ms Zahida Lanjar, joint secretary and Nusrat Hussain Memon as library secretary.

Badar-uz-Zaman, K. S. Nihal, Shoukat Ayaz Awan, Sadaqat Ali Zaidi, Ateeq-ur-Rehman and Qurban Ali Malano were elected members of the managing committee.

BABY DIES: A baby girl was killed when a TV set fell on her in Ansari Muhalla, Thull on Thursday.

According to details, three-year-old Maria, daughter of Mukhtiar Ansari, was playing in her home when a heavy TV set fell upon her.

As a result, she died on the spot.

DCO: Ghotki DCO Hidyatullah Rajper has prohibited the sale of cut fruits, over ripped fruits, manufacturing and sale of ice balls and kulfa within the local limits of district Ghotki for 60 days.

According to an official handout issued here on Thursday that the decission was taking as a precautionary measure to control outbreak of gastroenteritis.
