DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Authorities imposed fine on several drivers of public transport vehicles in Tank for overcharging passengers.

Receiving public complaints about overcharging by transporters, the additional assistant commissioner of Tank, Malik Sajid Ali Khan, along with district head of traffic police inspected vehicles on various roads.

Officials asked passengers about fares. They found that several drivers were charging fare higher than the government-notified rates. They imposed fine on drivers and refunded extra amount to passengers on the spot.

Malik Sajid Ali Khan said on the occasion that strict implementation of government-approved fares would be ensured under all circumstances. He said that action would continue against drivers for overcharging and carrying extra passengers.

CRICKET: Gomal University in collaboration with Higher Education Commission inaugurated Zonal Cricket Championship 2025-26 at the university’s sports ground.

The senior auditor of higher education department, Ataullah, was chief guest of the event, which was attended by university officials, special guests, faculty members and players representing various universities.

Addressing the ceremony, Ataullah highlighted the importance of sports for physical and mental development of students.

He said that such events promoted discipline, teamwork and a healthy spirit of competition among youth.

Teams from universities across the region are participating in the championship. The teams of Fata University, Kohat University of Science and Technology, Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak, Bannu University, University of Lakki Marwat, and University of Agriculture Dera Ismail Khan are taking part in the tournament.

Gomal University Vice-chancellor Prof Mohammad Zafar Iqbal instructed sports director Dr Waseem Khan to ensure provision of all possible facilities to participating players.

The university administration extended a warm welcome to the visiting teams. Officials said that comprehensive arrangements were made to ensure smooth conduct of the event.

Dr Waseem Khan reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting sports. He said that Gomal University would continue to organise competitive sporting events in the future.
