SHIKARPUR, June 15: No one would be rendered jobless as efforts were being made to overcome the problem of unemployment faced by the educated youth in the country.

This was stated by Acting President Mohammadmian Soomro while talking to newsmen at Dargah Hamayoon Sharif, on Thursday.

Mr Soomro said the government was determined to improve the socio-economic condition of the people as well as to provide basic amenities. Replying to a question about elections of the president for second tenure and the formation of caretaker government before holding the general elections, Soomro said that the present assemblies were competent to elect Pervez Musharraf as president for the second term.

Regarding appointment of caretaker government before the general elections, he said it depends upon the prevailing political situation under which the president could consider with the help of parliament if needed in the larger interests of the country, the parliament was the national institutions competent to settle all such national issues under the provisions of the constitution.

The acting president avoided to comment over Kalabagh dam. He, however, said he was of the opinion that the dams should be constructed for storage of water in order to meet the irrigation water needs of the country. However, he stressed the need for due share of Indus water for the province of Sindh.

To another question, he said that there was no army operation against the people in Balochistan, but the present government was taking all efforts to curb the terrorists activities to ensure peace and calm in the province.

About the jirga system, he said that it was banned by the court of law and people must obey orders of the court.

However, he favoured settlement of petty disputes through compromise between the parties in their interest. About demolition of Sindhi villages in Karachi and other major cities, Mr Soomro said that in this regard no injustice would be made.
