KARACHI, June 15: The government has been able to improve the overall law and order situation in the province, according to Sindh’s Senior Minister Syed Sardar Ahmad.

He said this while presenting the Sindh budget on Thursday.

He said that the improvement in security situation in Sindh had encouraged domestic and international financiers to invest in the province, especially in Karachi.

He made the claim only minutes after he offered fateha for Amanullah Niazi, Deputy Superintendent of the Karachi Central Prison, and three other policemen, who were killed by gunmen in Saddar, barely two kilometres away from the Sindh Government Secretariat.

According to the police daily report, the average number of daily incidents of car-lifting was 25 while reports indicated that over 70 cellphone were being snatched during a day.

This number does not include over a dozen such cases which go unreported.

On Thursday alone, the police sources said, bandits had looted 81 cellphones and seized 27 vehicles from various localities in the city.

Meanwhile, bandits snatched 38 cellphones at gunpoint while 43 others were stolen. Ten cars were taken away, including three which were hijacked. Seven other cars were reported to have been stolen from various localities.

Similarly, nine motorbikes were snatched at gunpoint and eight other were reported to have been stolen.
