CHAKWAL: A police constable, who allegedly shot dead a young man, was arrested in Talagang city on Friday.

According to the First Information Report and sources, Mohammad Abdullah, 20, went out of his home in a car along with a friend to buy medicine for his mother on Thursday night. As both friends were returning home, police officials tried to stop them but they did not stop. Two police constables riding a private car and wearing plainclothes chased them. As they approached them, one of the constables took out his SMG and opened fire from behind. The bullet struck Abdullah in the back. He was rushed to hospital but died on the way.

District Police Officer Kashif Zulifqar and MPA Malik Falak Sher Awan visited the aggrieved family and expressed their condolences. According to a spokesman for the Chakwal police, the DPO assured the family that justice would be done at any cost.

He also constituted a joint investigation team under the supervision of the SP investigation. A case of murder was registered against the policeman, who has been arrested.

In another incident, a 22-year-old woman was shot dead by her estranged husband in Talagang city on Feb 4.

According to the FIR, Asma Fatima of Khaur had married Mohammad Hamza, a resident of Dhurnal village in Fatehjang. The couple had three minor children.

On April 17 last year, a quarrel erupted between the couple and the husband subjected her to severe torture. The woman registered a case against him who managed to flee. Later, he was declared a proclaimed offender. On June 6, the accused committed a murder and was also declared a proclaimed offender in that case too.

Meanwhile, Asma reconciled with her parents and started living in Talagang in a rented house where she would work in a beauty parlour to earn a living for herself and her minor children. On Wednesday, as she came out of her home, Hamza appeared suddenly on a motorbike and shot her dead and escaped.
