LAKKI MARWAT: Terrorists blew up gas valve assembly in Bhana Manjiwala area of the district late on Wednesday night.

A police official confirmed the attack, saying that the gas infrastructure was targeted with explosives. He said an improvised explosive device (IED) planted alongside the gas valve assembly went off with a bang, badly damaging the facility and disrupting gas supply to various areas.

“A large police contingent reached the venue and launched a search in the area to track down terrorists,” he said. The official said that police tightened security in the area and around important installations after the attack.

Meanwhile, DPO Nazir Khan paid an inspection visit to the border police posts of Darra Tang, Wanda Mir Alam and Abbas Khattak with Mianwali district of Punjab and Karak. The visits were arranged in view of the current law and order situation in the area to sensitise policemen deployed at border check posts about their duties and responsibilities.

The district police chief checked security arrangements and other facilities and issued special instructions to cops with regard to implementing security related standard operating procedures (SOPs) in letter and spirit.

He directed the policemen to remain fully alert, keep an eagle eye to movements of suspects around police installations and wear bulletproof vests and helmets during duty hours.

The DPO inspected the ongoing civil work at the police posts and directed the relevant authorities to ensure use of quality construction material and complete the schemes within the stipulated time.

Mr Nazir also met with visitors, heard their complaints and issued on-spot orders to the relevant police officials for resolution of issues. He asked the police officials to behave with citizens politely and ensure provision of quick relief to them.
