Jamaat-i-Islami activists hold a rally at Hashtnagri, Peshawar, on Thursday to express solidarity with Kashmiris. — White Star

PESHAWAR: Kashmir Solidarity Day was obsessed across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday with national zeal to condemn India for committing atrocities against innocent people of the occupied valley.

A number of events including protest processions, seminars and meetings were held in different areas under the auspices of government departments, political parties, religious groups and civil society organisations to mark the day.

In Peshawar, a solidarity march was arranged by Jamaat-i-Islami. The march started from Hashtnagri Chowk and proceeded via GT Road to Ashraf Road. A large number of people participated in the march to express solidarity with the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir.

JI provincial emir Abdul Wasi, district chief Advocate Bahrullah Khan, Hafiz Hashmat Khan, Kashif Azam Khalil, Bilqis Hussain, Inayat Begum, Advocate Hafiz Hamidullah, Khalid Gul Mohmand, Khalid Mansoor and Osama Ameer addressed the gathering.Meanwhile, Chief Khateeb of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Maulana Mohammad Tayyab Qureshi said in a message that international human rights organisations and United Nations seemed silent spectators over alleged atrocities committed by Indian forces and Modi government in occupied Kashmir.

Solidarity marches were also arranged by information commission, Islamia College, Pasban Pakistan, population welfare department, sports development and traders in Peshawar.

In Lower Dir, district administration organised a ceremony at in Balambat, which was attended by government officials and people from different walks of life.

Kashmir Solidarity Day was also observed in South Waziristan Lower and Upper. Rallies and meetings were organised in both districts.In Mohmand district, rallies and commemorative events were organised at various locations, with active participation from government officials, students, tribal elders and civil society members. A rally was taken out from the office of assistant commissioner in Ekkaghund. A special ceremony was also held at Ata Sports Complex in Khewazai tehsil to mark the day.

Rallies and sports events were held in Lakki Marwat and Karak districts to express solidarity with the people of Indian-held Kashmir. The district education office with support of Boy Scouts Association observed the day by organising a rally in Lakki city.A rally was also held in Serai Naurang under the auspices of district administration.

In Karak, district administration with support of sports department arranged a badminton tournament to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day. Local clubs participated in the tournament.

In Haripur, different government and private educational institutions organised functions.

Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed in Hazara division, with people pledging to continue a peaceful struggle until the Indian government honoured United Nations resolutions, calling for a plebiscite in the occupied territory.

A ceremony was held in Bararkot, the boundary between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where people formed long human chains by holding hands to convey a message of unity to India.

Rallies and flag-hoisting ceremonies were also held in Mansehra, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, Kolai-Palas and Torghar districts to mark the day.

Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed in Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Bajaur, Bannu, Charsadda and other districts of the province.
