LOWER DIR: Jamaat-i-Islami deputy chief and former MNA Maulana Attaur Rehman has termed bills on child marriage and domestic violence a ‘conspiracy to erode Pakistan’s Islamic identity’, saying such legislation will not be accepted.

He was speaking at the annual function in a religious seminary in Miskini Jandol as chief guest here the other day. Local elders, religious scholars, students and a large number of residents of the area attended the function.

More than 200 male and female students, who had completed Islamic courses, were honoured with turbans and shawls on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Maulana Attaur Rehman, seminary’s director Maulana Saddam Hussain Islahi and JI Samarbagh tehsil chief Sahibzada Najmullah said that it was need of the hour to learn the Quran and practice its teachings.

Former MNA asks women to get both religious and modern education

They said that religious seminaries were playing a pivotal role in raising awareness about the rights of the Quran. They said that a Muslim society could only be strengthened through a combination of knowledge and action.

Maulana Attaur Rehman said that women formed the backbone of Islamic family system. He said that a woman of strong character, whether as a mother, sister, daughter or wife, could shape an entire household. He said that women should acquire both religious and contemporary education to effectively meet challenges of modern day.

He said that tabling of controversial bills such as those on child marriage and domestic violence was challenging Muslims’ core beliefs and hurting their sentiments, which required serious reflection.

He said that more than 30,000 seminaries across the country were educating more than 4.5 million students besides providing food and accommodation to them.

EMPLOYEES: All-Government Employees Grand Alliance (Agega) on Thursday rejected Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Malakand’s decision to appoint private graduates as examination staff for matriculation and intermediate examinations and announced to chalk out a course of action against it.

The decision was taken at a meeting of Agega chaired by its district chairman Muslim Khan. The meeting was attended by president of School Officers Association Dr Ali Gohar Khan, president of All Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Subject Specialists Association Yusuf Khan, district president of All Primary Teachers Association Qazi Habibullah, chairman of APCA Sehat Jan, president of Tanzeem-i-Asateza Muqaddar Khan and Naqab Shah besides other representatives of teachers’ bodies.

They expressed concerns over the decision to deploy private graduates instead of government teachers for conducting examinations under Malakand board.

They said that teachers and employees would boycott all examination duties under Malakand board. They said that the chairman and controller of the board would soon be approached to convey reservations of teachers to them.

LAID TO REST: Havaldar Amjad Khan of Federal Constabulary, a resident of Ahmad Gali, was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Talash here on Thursday.

He was martyred in when militants attacked an FC post in Darazenda, Dera Ismail Khan, on Wednesday night.
