PESHAWAR: The women’s jiu-jitsu competitions of the Under-21 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Games concluded on Thursday, with Peshawar Region emerging as the dominant team after winning all six gold medals.

Organised under the auspices of the KP Directorate General of Sports, the competitions were held at the Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex in Charsadda. Peshawar athletes claimed gold medals in the 44kg, 48kg, 52kg, 57kg, 63kg and 70kg weight categories.

Additional Director General (Sports) Rashida Ghaznavi attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and distributed medals, trophies and cash prizes among the winners.

Regional Sports Officer Kashif Farhan, District Sports Officer Gul Rukh, President of the Provincial Jiu-jitsu Association Tahseenullah and other officials were also present.

In the overall standings, Peshawar Region secured first position with six gold medals. Bannu Region finished second with two silver and two bronze medals, while Hazara Region secured third position with one silver and three bronze medals.

Meanwhile, in the women’s badminton event, teams from Peshawar and Hazara regions qualified for the final.

In the first semi-final, Peshawar Region defeated Malakand Region 2-1, while Hazara Region routed Mardan Region 2-0 in the second semi-final.

Secretary of the Provincial Badminton Association Mian Sadaqat Shah and Organising Secretary Bushra were present on the occasion.

In another fixture of the Games, Peshawar Region defeated Mardan Region 2-1 in a women’s volleyball match played at the Peshawar Board Ground.
