LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rao Abdul Kareem on Wednesday chaired his first high-level meeting at the Central Police Office to discuss his policy and priorities after assuming office.

Additional IGs, Safe Cities Authority managing director, deputy inspectors generals (DIGs), and other senior police officers attended the meeting, while the South Punjab Additional IG, RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs participated in the meeting via video-link.

Addressing the meeting, the IG apprised the officers of his priorities regarding law and order, crime control, and public service delivery. He said that police officers must follow discipline, rules, and procedures while performing official duties.

The IG said that achieving the targets given by the chief minister regarding improvement in police station culture and traffic management was a top priority. He said the chief minister’s “Safe Punjab Vision” would be achieved through teamwork, merit, and an integrated system.

He made it clear that the performance of district officers would be regularly reviewed on the basis of follow-ups of heinous crime cases. He said that senior officers must ensure accessibility for the common man and personally oversee matters of public grievance redressal.

The IG said that corruption, violation of the code of conduct, and misconduct with citizens were red lines. Strict accountability would be carried out without discrimination for misuse of authority and violation of discipline, he said.

He emphasised that the first and last objective of policing should be crime fighting, law and order, and security.

Mr Kareem directed RPOs and DPOs to further accelerate actions for crime control and eradication of narcotics.
