KARACHI: Rash and negligent driving claimed the lives of five people, including a minor, in separate incidents in the city on Wednesday, said police, hospital and rescue services officials.

In the first incident, a minor girl was killed and her two siblings were injured in a road accident on Northern Bypass.

Surjani Town SHO Sohail Khaskheli said that three siblings were crossing the road near Burki Ground when two teenage boys, allegedly performing one-wheeling on a motorcycle, hit them.

All three sustained critical injuries and were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where three-year-old Ruksana Sher Gul was pronounced dead. Her brothers, Rizwan, 6, and Ramzan, 8, were admitted for treatment, said police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed.

The suspects managed to flee the scene, leaving behind the motorcycle which was impounded by the police.

In another incident, a man and a teenager were killed on a link road.

A traffic police statement said the victims were riding a motorcycle and travelling from Kathore to the National Highway when a van coming from behind hit them near Malir Industrial Park. They sustained critical injuries and were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced Ramz Ali, 30, and Sahib Ali, 16, dead.

The van driver escaped from the scene along with the vehicle.

In another incident, a young man was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle off the National Highway.

Shah Latif Town SHO Mumtaz Marwat said the man, identified as Govinda, was passing through Sector-19 when an unknown vehicle hit him. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College where doctors declared him dead.

In Korangi, 18-year-old Anas Amjad was killed when an unidentified vehicle struck him near Bilal Chowrangi in Korangi on Wednesday evening, an Edhi Foundation spokesperson said.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.
