LAHORE: A Wazirabad court has sentenced Muhammad Naveed, a convict in the Wazirabad attack on PTI founding chairman Imran Khan, to four-year imprisonment on another charge of possessing illegal weapons.

Judicial Magistrate Fazal Elahi declared the convict guilty under the Punjab Arms (amended) Ordinance, 2015.

After reviewing the evidence from Case/FIR No. 742/2022, the magistrate handed down four years of simple imprisonment along with a fine of Rs40,000.

The magistrate granted the convict the benefit of Section 382-B of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which allows the period of time the convict spent in detention during the trial, to be deducted from their overall prison sentence.

The magistrate further directed that the sentence will run concurrently with any other sentences the convict may be serving from other criminal cases, effective from the date of his entry into jail.

According to the warrant of the sentence issued by the court on Feb 2, the Superintendent of Central Prison, Gujranwala, has been authorised to take Naveed into custody to begin the execution of the four-year sentence.

In April 2025, an anti-terrorism court had awarded a life imprisonment to Naveed under section 302b of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

On Nov 3, 2022, during PTI’s long march in the Wazirabad area of Punjab, a gunman opened fire, injuring former premier Imran Khan, Senator Faisal Javed and several others, while one worker had lost his life.

The PTI founding chairman had accused the then coalition government of PDM and some military officials of involvement in the attack.

However, the FIR of the incident was registered on behalf of police against Naveed, who was arrested at the scene, and other unidentified accused.
