SIALKOT, June 14: Four people were shot dead and one was injured seriously by their rival group in Adamkey Cheema village, Daska, on Wednesday.

Bashir Ahmad and Husnain of Mangowal, Gujrat, and Naseer Ahmad and Zafar Khan of Thakraa Mahey village, Daska, were on their way to Daska by a taxi to attend the court of additional district and sessions judge in a case. Four motorcyclists intercepted them near Adamkey Cheema and opened fire on them, killing them on the spot, and injuring cab driver Afzal seriously.

The armed accused sped away by firing in the air.

The injured driver was shifted to Lahore.

Daska police told journalists that there was 60 years old enmity between the Bashir group and Amjad group. The enmity has so far taken the lives of more than a dozen people from both sides.

Daska Saddar police have registered a case, with no arrest.

EROSION: Continuous erosion in the river Chenab has affected many more villages and wiped out dozens of houses in border areas.

The worst-hit villages are Khanu Bhau, Papeen, Saddarpura, Gangwal, Kaliyaal and Ghazipura.

The erosion had earlier damaged more than 12,500 acres of agricultural land in these villages. The affected people have started shifting to the safer places to avoid the loss of their cattle and valuables.

Many affected people told journalists that they had been facing a great deal of inconvenience after being displaced. They said graveyards had also been washed out by erosion.

They have protested against the alleged negligence of the government functionaries, who have so far failed to help them out of the crisis.

The local irrigation department officials refused to comment on the situation.
