PESHAWAR: Special assistant to the chief minister for information Shafi Jan on Thursday said the provincial government and the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) had consistently expressed serious concerns regarding the health of jailed PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan but the federal government continued to issue false statements.

In a statement issued here, Mr Jan said the federal government secretly shifted Mr Imran to Islamabad’s Pims hospital from Adiala Jail. He said the confirmation of the development by federal information minister Atta Tarar was actually a “charge sheet” against the federal government itself, exposing all its lies.

“Despite serious concerns about our leader’s health in jail, access to his personal physician is being denied in a blatant violation of his fundamental human rights,” he said.

The aide to the CM said that although the PTI founder was shifted to a hospital, his family members and lawyers were deliberately kept in the dark, which was evidence of criminal negligence on part of the federal and Punjab governments and the jail administration. “We condemn this act of the federal and Punjab governments,” he said.

Mr Jan said that if the “fake” federal government did not immediately allow access to Mr Imran’s personal physician, PTI would decide a tough course of action.

He added that the federal government had trampled the Constitution and the law, while clear court orders regarding meetings with founder PTI had also been blatantly ignored.

The CM’s aide said that the insensitivity shown by the federal government regarding the former prime minister was extremely unfortunate and that the corrupt gang forcibly imposed at the federal and Punjab levels, should not be blinded by political revenge.

He said that KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi visited Adiala Jail on Thursday to meet Mr Imran but was not allowed.

Mr Jan said that illegal restrictions had been imposed on meetings with the jailed PTI founder, which constituted a clear violation of court orders, the Constitution, democratic values and fundamental human rights.

He said that despite keeping Mr Imran imprisoned in false cases, the “corrupt clique” remained fearful of his public popularity.

The CM’s special assistant said the PTI founder’s politics revolved around public welfare, strengthening democracy and economic sovereignty, whereas the current federal government was entirely focused on political revenge instead of providing relief to the people.

Criticising the Punjab government, Mr Jan said the health sector in Punjab had reached the brink of collapse, and that the report of the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team itself stood as a clear charge sheet against the Punjab government.
